Window Rock Modern
Two retreats in the mountains of Tennessee

Summer 2026 Summer on the MountainIn this issue: a summer calendar for both homes · our favorite things to do and ways to keep cool · photographs from the guests creating with us this season · and a hello to a guest on her fourth visit in three years. When we last wrote, we promised a second home was coming. On April 1 — and no, that wasn’t a joke — Jackson Point opened its doors. Fourteen-foot bifold doors, to be exact, opening straight onto the valley. We’ve been heartened by the early response. |

What guests are saying Jackson Point has earned more than ten reviews so far — every one of them five stars. A few: “An absolute 12/10. The view is truly insane, and the natural light and clouds make it dreamy — from the first sun in the morning to the moonlit views at night.” Nick · Nashville, TN |
“The most beautiful view we’ve ever seen, the most luxurious home we’ve ever been in, and the best we’ve ever slept.” Stephen · Allendale, MI |
“An extraordinary retreat in every sense. The wellness room is in a class of its own. More than a place to stay — it is an experience.” Lindsey · Dayton, TN |
An honest word on timing: Jackson Point reached 87% occupancy this May — already closing in on The A-Frame’s 91% average across all of 2025. The mountain is lovely year-round, and summer weekends are among the first to go. |

On the summer calendar Lavender, fireworks & live music |
The A-Frame · Dunlap & Chattanooga Right now through June 21, Flat Top Mountain Farm — a 200-year-old family farm near Chattanooga — opens its fields for its annual U-pick lavender festival, with bluegrass on select evenings, lavender lemonade, and Highland cows and a baby donkey to meet. Come the Fourth, Chattanooga goes big for America’s 250th with United250 — a free riverfront celebration featuring the largest drone show in the city’s history (500 drones over the Tennessee River) plus a 1,000-foot “pyro waterfall” off the Market Street Bridge. The beloved Pops on the River lights up Coolidge Park the evening of July 2, and Dunlap’s July 4th Celebration brings out the whole valley for a hometown parade, music, and fireworks at dusk. |

Jackson Point · Sewanee, Monteagle & the caverns About 45 minutes away, The Caverns hosts concerts inside a natural underground amphitheater — extraordinary acoustics, and cool air all summer long. On July 4, Monteagle throws The Great American Mountain Party: a 10am hometown parade, then a “Red, White & Rockabilly” block party from 6–10pm with live music, dancing, and a fireworks finale over the mountain. Up the road, Sewanee holds its own Fourth of July parade through the village. |

Things to do — and ways to keep cool Beat the heat |
The A-Frame When the afternoon turns hot, head underground. Ruby Falls is a 145-foot waterfall deep inside Lookout Mountain — cool and otherworldly no matter the forecast. Down on the riverfront, the Tennessee Aquarium is world-class and blissfully air-conditioned, an easy half-day with the river right outside. |
|
Jackson Point Or stay in and slow down — the Wellness Room, the cedar soaking tub, and a long morning with the valley to yourself. |

For the evening, High Point Restaurant in Monteagle has one of the best patios on the mountain for wine and cocktails as the sun drops — with a story to match. The 1929 mansion still wears its original hardwood floors and light fixtures, and as local legend has it, the place was financed by Al Capone. In the twenties and early thirties, the three-story compound is said to have had rooftop escape hatches and basement tunnels used to move liquor — and it’s widely believed Capone and John Dillinger once lounged on the stone patio over drinks and a few hands of cards. |

From our recent guests In good companyWe’re grateful for the creatives who chose to spend their time on the mountain with us this season — their work runs all through this letter. |
Marco & Ale · Jackson Point Marco and Ale spent their visit creating at Jackson Point, and the results are stunning. Marco’s eye for color and light — the way he reads the valley at golden hour and the glow off the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows — is something special. And it’s not all Marco — Ale is a gifted photographer in her own right, with her own beautiful frames from the house; see her take on Jackson Point here. We can’t recommend their photography and travel-and-adventure accounts highly enough. |

Their stay also marked a first for us: we hosted our very first private chef, Brittiney Moore (@thechefyouwant), who prepared a three-course dinner for Marco and Ale in the house. |

Lexie · both homes Lexie stayed with us at both homes too — her eye for the golden-hour light on the deck and in the music lounge is all over this issue. |

Diana · The A-Frame And a hello to a guest who keeps finding her way back: Diana has stayed at The A-Frame four times in our three years. A Dunlap native, she knows this corner of the mountain better than just about anyone, and her account is a love letter to gardening, photography, travel, small towns, and farmer’s markets. 📷 @lundquistdiana · The A-Frame See more → @lundquistdiana |
